  • Bio:

From 2007 until present Robert has been building out MDFs and IDFs for multi million dollar companies across the midwest and has managed hundreds of new construction IT build outs for various project sizes from small retail stores to large shipping distribution centers. Also during this time frame Robert has serviced hundreds of general IT service calls dealing with everything from broadband, to network upgrades, and everything in between dealing with copper cabling, security, fiber optics, and any commercial grade IT equipment maintenance. In between this time, Robert also spent 1 year acting as a Northern Michigan Red Cross IT administrator and has dedicated a small amount of time doing Linux server configurations for a small Indianapolis company.

In 2013 Robert discovered Bitcoin and has spent every free moment dedicating time to advancing his knowledge in the field of cryptocurrency. From March 2013 until April 2014 Robert was a Bitcoin and Altcoin miner building up a mining farm consisting of 34 GPUs and 8 CPUs. Since mining on general computer hardware was no longer profitable for cryptocurrency mining, Robert co-founded FoldingCoin Inc in July 2014 with hopes of helping to redirect a large amount of the mining power that goes into altcoins to be better used towards Stanford's Folding@home project.

Since FoldingCoin was well received in the cryptocurrency community, Robert decided in January of 2015 to go full time in the Counterparty community. Since the beginning of 2015 Robert has taken on the following roles:

    • Director of FoldingCoin Inc
    • Community director for the Counterparty Foundation
    • Host of the LTB podcast: “XCP Weekly Update”
    • Webmaster of XCPassets.org
    • Event coordinator to the Indy Bitcoin Meetup

  • Re: apparent contradiction re: (de)centralization

@thatlarkin Am I understanding correctly? I'm open to all opposing viewpoints. I just listened to a half-hour long plea to embrace decentralization and P2P market forces, then later, a half-hour of how the inherent value of LTBcoin is determined by one person, pretty much the most centralized a system can be. Again, I'm not trolling. I really want to understand better what I perceive to be contradictory messages.

So assets like LTBC and FLDC are centralized to a point. Someone still has to distribute the funds and that is the creator of the token. So it depends on the trust you have in that person or company. However, since lets say LTB has a heavy interest in LTBC, it would not be in the best interest for them to do something to screw with the coin by lets say introducing more coins in the market that goes outside of their set schedule. They collect a lot of LTBC for things like advertising, so doing something to hurt the coin will hurt their own investment and time spent in the coin.

That being said, it is in deep centralized (semi centralized because the people who own the token LTBC still cannot have it taken away from them). I forsee a future in which some assets need to be centralized, such as a stock built inside of the blockchain using the counterparty protocol

@sicocos I really hope FLDC will continue to grow rapidly and can match the coin that has great

We do to :) exciting things are on the horizon and Merged Folding is a big part of that

@pooktwo Thanks for saving it :D we have some great applications that we wish to release this year so sit tight, we are working on a use for FLDC

That's exciting! Could you give any details or hints about what applications are going to use FLDC? Or is there a place where some of these applications are already being discussed?

The site we are forking is found here https://github.com/brighton36/CoinPost and the live site for an example is found here https://www.coinpost.com/

At first we want to just get the thing working in beta. So everything is going to be a standard trust system in which you and a seller have to be on a trust based system. After releasing the beta, the first thing we will work on is getting escrow system working in which we take the trust out of the hands between only a buyer and seller, but also add an arbiter type system in which a third party helps in verifying that transactions are done in a proper way.

The exchange idea would be great and that will be further down the road after release. As for the merged folding, we do not plan on hosting any wallets except for the escrow addresses, so merged folding would not incorporate in this. The plans for the stats page however may be able to host your merged folding, but now i am getting a little ahead of myself :)

Thanks for the update! That all sounds really exciting and I can't wait to see how it all comes together! Any target/approximate timeline for the beta? Certainly not planning to hold you to anything :) but wondering if it's about a month away, or more likely this fall, etc.

Our dev Chad just got the test server working and online, so step one is done! I will open it now for your viewing, but anyone reading this later, this link will only work when we are working on the server http://muscular-firefly-58-217727.use1.nitrousbox.com/ so this link will not work once i sign off tonight when i am done working, but you can always try the link to see what we are doing.

So now you will see its kind of a blank template that doesnt even allow you to sign up yet, but we would like to launch a beta in a month, but that timeframe may be unrealistic. We are just now starting it so timeframes will be released once we crack it open a little more

  • Re: I have an question

@tomcio2001 Listening only to last part of show only to hear magic word is bad or not? I need to know because im Christian, thanks :)

Well i do not think that your religious preference gets taken into factor when deciding to partake in magic words, unless of course you think Bitcoin and Magic words is witchcraft, in that case you should stay away.

Also since you are christian i am assuming you think stealing is wrong, in that case if you fast forward to only the magic words and do not listen to the whole episode, then that is basically stealing the magic words and that is against the ten commandments. So you should probably listen to the whole episode to not anger god. Plus the episodes are great so you should listen anyways, but nothings prevents you from just stealing the magic words :D

    Absolutely:

We are building a Counterparty style marketplace (like an ebay for CP) in which you will be able to buy and sell any items for any CP tokens. However the fees we collect will be exclusively in FLDC to drive the demand up for FLDC.

We built FLDC first before the applications as this started as a hobby for me and James, however we are now beginning to develop and build the applications that we need as we have grown in the community and this has become more then a hobby now :)

  • Re: Is there incentize to buy FLDC aside from speculation?

@thrakkath Sounds good and the live site example looks nice. I can really see a bright future for online auctions in crypto once we have a good escrow systems that can rival Paypals level of trust. Good to see exchange planned for future as well, the more things in the one place the better. Looking forward to doing some trades there (as long as its not all US only).

It will not be us only, but keep in mind, the first release will be a TRUST BASED SYSTEM in which you MUST trust your seller/buyer. After beta escrow will be worked on
