Should LTB charge for its podcasts

@mutatu How about everyone who owns some cryptocurrency has to pay an annual fee to LTB under the threat of a prison sentence?

Lol. I read this and thought how absurd. Then I realized it already happens, just not with LTB.

As Bitcoin miners are compensated for Proof of Work with 25 Bitcoins, Podcast producers are compensated for providing Proof of Content with X amount of LTBcoins every week.

The model and the ecosystem is based on the equation that Bitcoin and LTBcoin will appreciate in value 5 years down the road in future.

The issue of paying the content providers should be addressed in depth may be 3-4 years down the road when the distribution tapers down. It also enables LTB Network to be mature and stable in the meantime.

It is too early to address the issue but it should be in the back burner for now.

Providing the high value content for free is one of the key marketing tool for promoting the whole LTB ecosystem.

There may be a point where LTB can charge for their podcasts, but doubtful that time is now. I would compare it to UFC fight pass or something. Even though the UFC has a monopoly on the best fighters in the world, they have created an over saturated market against themselves and trying to make watchers pay for content with this fight pass option. This is why they went to FOX because it is advertising money not consumers.

What would you think about a bonus update once a week about the inner workings at LTB for bitcoin and LTBc subscribers

Would you want it weekly? with every show? What would be a fair donation level in BTC terms, .01? per week per month?

Bonus update once a month is a good idea. It also means the content is free but people will have to pay for value added layer that exists on top of the content.

I reckon the target audience are the ones who wants an update about the various developments in the Bitcoin ecosystem but do not have time to look into it themselves. They will be willing to pay for the bonus updates.

LTB quality is high but LTB isn't the only one. These guys are outstanding as well: feeds.feedburner.com/EpicenterBitcoin

In my opinion boxin in is bad and opening up is good. LTBCoin is about opening up, why go against it?

That said, perhaps if you pay a little you don't have to listen to the sponsors, yea that could be something.

@dsmalone At the fear of retribution from the LTB community I simply want to float an idea for consideration. Items that have more value (quality, usefulness, branding) tend to command a higher price. Why should podcast be any different?

The quality and value that Adam's podcast create are so much higher than any other podcast available, imho.

Proposal: Offer 80% of the LTB podcast for free to all listeners then to "unlock" the last 20% of the podcast you either have to pay in LTBcoin or BTC. For example, the next episode of LTB features the main guest and then a "special" bonus feature of the podcast is an exclusive interview with Andreas about updates on his new book. Listeners who value content about Andreas could pay to hear that portion of the podcast or elect not to.

I think the days of traditional advertising on media platforms as the main revenue stream are numbered. Cryptocurrencies are going to finally usher in the era of micropayments for content. Maybe the Vennd.io could be used to easily dispense these "special" portions of the podcast.

Episode 87 "The Captive and the Mountain" where you interviewed Charlie Schrem after his arrest. If you had played 1/2 the episode then required payment for the second 1/2, I think a majority of your listeners would have gladly paid.

Maybe this idea has already been floated but I thought I would add to the Lounge for discussion.

    Best,

    Dale.

I think that this would be a huge mistake. LTB is competing with an infinitely large market when it comes to media sites. The space gets a bit smaller when you bring it down to bitcoin media sites, but it is still a very large market.

People listen to the LTB podcast at their discretion. They are not begging us for a podcast. LTB is asking them to come take the time to listen to it. Along with that, LTB would love if you came to the forums, joined, etc. The first interaction most people have with LTB is the podcast, I imagine. If you tried charging for any portion of the podcast you would instantly put off a whole hell of a lot of people that would never come back and check out the site.

I would submit that it is more profitable for LTB to secure a forum user and regular listener than to secure one listener who pays for a podcast and then leaves.

    Cheers, mate.

I don't like the idea of anything that would limit people's access to information. I do, however, see value in incentivizing people with the means to support the network. Maybe an optional subscription model (like free-to-play MMO games) where the subscribers get benefits above what the non-subscribers get, but all can play on (relatively) equal ground?

Maybe we have an LTBP (preferred) coin that you can use to buy things with high value that most members might not need, but some members want desperately - like Adam's time. Something like 9-10 sessions are LTBS purchasable only, and the other is still auctioned for LTB coin? Maybe even a fixed exchange rate (LTBP/LTB) at 10:1 or 100:1 through something like VENDD?

If people will pay real money to have cool virtual sunglasses that someone else can't (easily) get, I think a few folks here would pay BTC or LTB/month to have access to LTBP and thereby to Adam's valuable time (and the like).

    (without reading anyone's response)

No. Maybe just charge for special content? But make it easy to get hooked on the show (and Bitcoin itself), and expect the quality content combined with a growing number of Bitcoin enthusiasts to propel listenership, and support it all through a few ads.

Maybe bonus content could be sold, but the regular podcasts should be free.
