I've tried folding for a little while and actually not sold any of the tokens I've earned, but was wondering if there is any use aside from a speculative investment for someone to purchase the tokens. A while ago, I had some Gridcoins since I really like the concept of providing unused computing power to worthwhile efforts.

One thing I always thought would be cool would be if you could use these "science oriented" tokens for purchases geared towards the science community. A big one I had thought of was using these tokens to buy tickets to the Smithsonian Institute of Arts or other museums that promote science. When people go to these types of places, they are in an open mindset where they may actually read a small description next to a computer humming away in the corner of the room that is folding proteins. It would be awesome if people could at least pay for a portion of their entry fee in whatever FLDC they earned prior to visiting such a place.

I think, like most assets, that the community will create uses for their tokens. I know that one of the projects that OCTO is going to start this year will create uses for many Counterparty assets, including FLDC. I'm not sure if all assets will be included at first. However, being that OCTO is part of merged folding, FLDC will definitely be included in our projects.

    Good ideas though :)

We are building a Counterparty style marketplace (like an ebay for CP) in which you will be able to buy and sell any items for any CP tokens. However the fees we collect will be exclusively in FLDC to drive the demand up for FLDC.

We built FLDC first before the applications as this started as a hobby for me and James, however we are now beginning to develop and build the applications that we need as we have grown in the community and this has become more then a hobby now :)

That marketplace idea sounds great, one question will it have everything in the one place?. For example merged folding, BTC/XCP exchange for tokens and marketplace all in the one site. If you had an exchange you could use FLDC for voting to get promising new tokens on exchange.

This site https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/ has such an arrangement for its scrypt coin(DOT) providing it with multiple uses outside speculation and a very healthy trade volume. Anyway best of luck cant wait to see what you have in store:)

The site we are forking is found here https://github.com/brighton36/CoinPost and the live site for an example is found here https://www.coinpost.com/

At first we want to just get the thing working in beta. So everything is going to be a standard trust system in which you and a seller have to be on a trust based system. After releasing the beta, the first thing we will work on is getting escrow system working in which we take the trust out of the hands between only a buyer and seller, but also add an arbiter type system in which a third party helps in verifying that transactions are done in a proper way.

The exchange idea would be great and that will be further down the road after release. As for the merged folding, we do not plan on hosting any wallets except for the escrow addresses, so merged folding would not incorporate in this. The plans for the stats page however may be able to host your merged folding, but now i am getting a little ahead of myself :)

Sounds good and the live site example looks nice. I can really see a bright future for online auctions in crypto once we have a good escrow systems that can rival Paypals level of trust. Good to see exchange planned for future as well, the more things in the one place the better. Looking forward to doing some trades there (as long as its not all US only).

It will not be us only, but keep in mind, the first release will be a TRUST BASED SYSTEM in which you MUST trust your seller/buyer. After beta escrow will be worked on

I'll keep that in mind thanks. Won't get anything big until Escrow is in place anyway.
