FoldingCoin - FLDC

1

Mine for Medicine, Not Hashes

FoldingCoin - FLDC helps battle diseases like cancer and Alzheimer by contributing to the Stanford's Folding@Home network. FLDC is a coin that rewards volunteers for contributing to this initiative. FoldingCoin is distributed on a daily basis, based on the individual contributions. This new currency can be transferred from person to person using the Bitcoin blockchain and the Counterparty protocol. Please visit our tutorial page for guides on setting up FLDC and FAH.

Folding@home is a long running project (2000) from the folks of Stanford University that lets your spare CPU or GPU simulate complex protein folding. The results of all this distributed computation is tabulated and analyzed, to help new find new medicines and cures to be derived to some of the worst diseases faced by man. But there's a problem. There's no reward for sharing your computer cycles in this way. You can join a team and you can earn points, but there is no profit motive to help with research.

With 2 simple steps, you are earning FLDC

I don't do any mining but I'd definitely like to purchase a few Folding@Home credits for my coin collection if anyone tries this out.

My apologies, The coin is FLDC and the first set of coins will be available next monday when i issue the first round. Also its much easier to use this program than with mining programs so you can use your computers CPU as CPU is useful with their program unlike CPU mining which has been dead for a long time

Pretty neat. I had been mining LTC on my home server but the yield has been zilch lately. It's nice to have something else to put the cycles towards. If nothing else it gets FAH some more folders.

I'm ambivalent over whether I think this project will go anywhere. Right now it seems like the idea of "1 guy on the internet". But it would be nice to get in on the ground floor of something.

pooktwo: I like the web page, no nonsense and tells you how to get into it. You might do well to have some way for a community to coalesce around this, have you given any thought to adding a message board or chat?

Thanks James, i would absolutely love help from the community, and yes its just me right now :) Though i will say people are very receptive of this as i already have some great feedback on changes from the community that i need to make including the ASIC proof part, apparently there is a super computer called Anton that is an ASIC for this purpose, but still is no way available to the public yet. I actually am working on new parts to the website as I speak. I will add a board right now because you are right, i am missing that.

FYI: Anyone who would like to get closely involved in helping me develop this please send me an email to foldingcoin.net@gmail.com on how you can help and i would love it :)

Hello and thank you to all 8 Miners who have helped get the first week of Foldingcoin started by helping credit almost 200 folds! (and the week aint over yet) http://www.foldingcoin.net - We are already ranked 2,235 out of 220,353 teams in just one week!

Currently the project is just run by myself and I am learning through great feedback some of the things that I will need in order to make this project really get running off the ground. I already have 1 other individual who has expressed interest in helping me develop this coin and i will be talking with him this weekend. However that stills leaves just two of us and obviously since this is non pay, me and him can only work on this in our free time. I am dedicating all my free time to this but a team would be great to have.

So i am posting this to see if anyone would be interested in helping develop this new coin with the following skills/ideas:

-Web design -Content Editing -Logo Design -Social Media Admin -Getting on Search Engines

These are just the starting categories that i feel would help immediately but any suggestions would be great. Thank you everyone and remember, mine with us and you can help Stanford discovery new medicines for us all (and you get a great new coin:)
