EB102 - Flavien Charlon: Openchain, Centralized Digital Assets Without Blockchains or Consensus

    October 26th, 2015 by epicenterbitcoin
Among the dividing themes in the Bitcoin space is the idea of public versus private blockchains. While some argue that private and permissioned blockchains can offer better scalability and lower latency for enterprises, others insist the Bitcoin blockchain will offer the best level of security and robustness longterm. Recently, projects have emerged that propose the best of both worlds by leveraging both off-chain and on-chain transactions. This is the idea behind Openchain, an “open so... Read More

    October 22nd, 2015 by Rob
Hello, welcome to episode 28 of *The Bitcoin Game.* I'm Rob Mitchell. When I scheduled an interview with CoinCube CEO Robert Allen, I felt pretty skeptical. My gut told me a cloud-based Bitcoin-trading-bot would be something like a cloud-mining Ponzi-scheme on steroids. I wondered, would this interview be my first exposé? Would my "gotcha" questions be too difficult for Robert to field? Listen to find out! *7/19/16 UPDATE: For the sake of being informative, the gains in my CoinCube-traded... Read More

EB101 - Ryan Shea & Muneeb Ali: Bringing Decentralization to Identity with Blockchain ID and Onename

    October 19th, 2015 by epicenterbitcoin
A brilliant fact about crypto-economic blockchains is that they enable the construction of naming systems that transcend limits imposed by Zooko's triangle. Traditional naming systems such as human names, Domain Name System (DNS) and Facebook profile names are subject to Zooko's triangle and cannot be secure, human memorable and decentralised at once. For instance human names such as Meher Roy are human-memorable and decentralised but not secure (nothing prevents hundreds of people being cal... Read More

MMM Global Republic of Bitcoin: Crypto's Next Scandal?

    October 17th, 2015 by William
Recently I came across a scam of alarming proportions. It is called “MMM Global Republic of Bitcoin.” Those who follow Ponzi schemes will immediately recognize the name MMM. In the 1990s, Russian fraudster Sergey Mavrodi ran one of Russia’s largest Ponzi schemes with the same name. Savvy marketing and promises of 1000%+ returns suckered tens of thousands of people into investing their savings in Mavrodi’s scheme. By 1994, when MMM’s offices were closed due to tax evasion, Mavrodi owed his investors beween 100 billion and 3 trillion rubles (between tens of millions and billions of dollars). Mavrodi spent a few years in jail, but by 2011, he was responsible for at least two other pyramid schemes. Now Mavrodi is back in business, bigger and badder than ever. This time he is using Bitcoin. This is a great interview. I'm very interested in this project and its ethos after hearing this interview. Read More
