EB101 - Ryan Shea & Muneeb Ali: Bringing Decentralization to Identity with Blockchain ID and Onename
October 19th, 2015 byepicenterbitcoin
A brilliant fact about crypto-economic blockchains is that they enable the construction of naming systems that transcend limits imposed by Zooko's triangle. Traditional naming systems such as human names, Domain Name System (DNS) and Facebook profile names are subject to Zooko's triangle and cannot be secure, human memorable and decentralised at once. For instance human names such as Meher Roy are human-memorable and decentralised but not secure (nothing prevents hundreds of people being cal... Read More -

MMM Global Republic of Bitcoin: Crypto's Next Scandal?
October 17th, 2015 byWilliam
Recently I came across a scam of alarming proportions. It is called “MMM Global Republic of Bitcoin.” Those who follow Ponzi schemes will immediately recognize the name MMM. In the 1990s, Russian fraudster Sergey Mavrodi ran one of Russia’s largest Ponzi schemes with the same name. Savvy marketing and promises of 1000%+ returns suckered tens of thousands of people into investing their savings in Mavrodi’s scheme. By 1994, when MMM’s offices were closed due to tax evasion, Mavrodi owed his investors beween 100 billion and 3 trillion rubles (between tens of millions and billions of dollars). Mavrodi spent a few years in jail, but by 2011, he was responsible for at least two other pyramid schemes. Now Mavrodi is back in business, bigger and badder than ever. This time he is using Bitcoin. Let's Talk Bitcoin! #256 Keep it Simple, Stupid!
October 17th, 2015 byadam
##On Today's Show We're zooming in on two projects that are keeping things simple with the idea that once you've solved the basic problems you can do all of the fun stuff. As technology enthusiasts we love the fun stuff, but even more we love projects actually getting to the people who can prove their value (or not!). * Adam speaks with the founder of [Joystream.co](https://joystream.co), a Bittorrent Client with a built-in bitcoin wallet that uses Payment Channels to let Downloaders pay Uploaders using market-based pricing. * Matthew digs into the [Bitmarkets](https://voluntary.net) project with founder Steve for an in-depth look at the choices they've made and why they make sense. This is a great interview. I'm very interested in this project and its ethos after hearing this interview. Read More -

On our trip to NYC for [Liberty Fest](http://lfnyc.com/), which took place on October 10 and 11, [Tone Vays](https://twitter.com/Tone_LLT) of Brave New Coin opened his home to our mobile studio for a pretty fun episode with Paul Puey of AirBitz, Dimitry Murashchik of Mycelium, and himself. Contrary to the silly title, Paul and Dimitry do not compete in this episode, but they do compare the different features of each wallet. We also get into a whole range of other topics, such as sports bettin... Read More -
